Kwong Wai Siew Li Si She Shut

Founded in 1874, this Cantonese clan first functioned as a rest-house for fellow clansmen, with a shophouse unit along Upper Chin Chew Street. Over the years, the association has since established itself as a 'literary studio' for the promotion of education and culture. In 1954, the association moved to its current premises at 25 Ann Siang Road. The association has remained active in the promotion of Chinese culture, offering free calligraphy lessons and talks to the public at their unit.

This Singapore Heritage Festival, drop by Ann Siang Road on 6 & 7 May to catch a sampling of the rich cultural offerings presented by this association. From Cantonese story-telling sessions (by Mdm Lee Swee Har who studied under the story-telling master Lee Dai Sor), tea demonstrations with traditional snacks, talks about the clan's history and free portraiture sketches, to outdoor performances such as Hainanese opera by Qiong Ju Society of Singapore and puppetry performance, there's so much to take in at this historic clan of Ann Siang.
