Several life-sized murals found in heritage neighbourhoods such as Kampong Glam and Tiong Bahru, have captured the imagination of many Singaporeans and visitors. These murals express the romance of “places and moments… that blend sights, sounds, smell and tastes”.

Unbeknownst to many, they were designed and painted by Yip Yew Chong, an accountant who completed his first public mural in August 2015.

Hear from Yip as he discusses his works: his hopes of documenting Singapore’s history and heritage through the murals, behind-the-scenes stories of creating the murals, and his interesting encounters with people as he painted these murals.

Visitors can also catch a glimpse of a selection of Yip’s artworks, which are presented as a multimedia installation in Gallery10 of the National Museum of Singapore, from 28 April to 31 July 2017.
